Synopsis
The agents of the renowned Investigative Collection Unit have to be the biggest, baddest, and brightest to take on missions no one else would dare. It doesnât hurt that theyâre also the sexiest. But in a shadowy world where reality means living on the razorâs edge of deception, few survive with their hearts intact . . . ICU intel expert Monty Buchannanâs idea of fun is creating softwareânot roughing it in a cabin off the grid in Alaska. But his team forced him to unplug when his intense need to be in control put a mission at risk. Being alone isnât a problem; most people make him uncomfortable. But thereâs something about the woman he finds floundering in a frozen stream that warms his ice-cold heart . . . Taylor Moore was once a spoiled socialite famous for her tabloid-worthy exploits, until she broke out from under wealthy fatherâs thumb. Now sheâs the self-made CEO of an online matchmaking serviceâand on the run from Russian mobsters whoâve hijacked her website. But when sheâs suddenly plucked from a river by a half-naked mountain man, trust will become a matter of survival. And desire just might break down the defenses that have kept them both playing it far too safe for far too long . . .

EXCERPT
âAdmit it, you were scared when you first saw me, but when you
woke up, I was wearing the glasses. Your opinion changed. You thought
I was smart. Most people trust someone they perceive as intelligentâ¦and
relatively harmless.â
âYou mean nerdy. You wear glasses so people think youâre smart. Why
is it you have to convince anyone of that?â
âIâll admit Iâm not a patient person. I donât want to have to continually
convince people I know what Iâm doing. Iâ¦I did a lot ofâ¦convincingâ¦
when I was a kid. I wonât do it again. You asked who I was earlier. Iâm a
computer expert.â
Okay. âBut not a normal techy.â Normal techies didnât have underground
hidey-holes. âSo, what is it? Information officer for the military. Hacker
for the CIA. What?â Sheâd feel a lot better if she knew heâd gone through
some security clearance.
âYou watch too much TV.â
âI donât watch any television. Except for The Bachelor, and thatâs purely
for business.â That was her story and she was sticking to it. âAnd who else
but the government would fund a place like this?â
He sighed like a man not used to people questioning him. âI work for
an agency that specializes in search and recover. Every team member has
a role. Iâm the computer guy. Mostly, our job is to findâ¦things.â
âJudging from the hardware out there, Iâd say they donât hire you to
find their missing pet.â Of that she was certain.
âNo.â
âAnd isnât it the policeâs job to findâ¦things?â
âSometimes,â he said.
âYou with the police?â How much could she trust him?
âYouâre asking too many questions.â
âPut yourself in my shoes.â
He got up and went into the kitchen. âHow about some food? All you
had was soup, and I havenât eaten since this morning.â
Why didnât he want to answer her? âAvoiding my questions when youâre
stuck with me for who knows how long isnât going to work.â
âIâm not avoiding. Iâm hungry.â He opened a cupboard and pulled out
a large can. âChili? It says right on the can, fit for kings.â
âSure,â she said, more to stay agreeable than actually looking forward to
canned chili. She joined him. âYou donât work with the police. Do you work
against them?â Although even to herself that sounded like a stupid question,
because if he didâif what they did was illegalâhe wouldnât tell her.
