Review:
I don’t know what to label this book. It’s mostly a contemporary romance. However, there are metaphysical aspects to it that could place it under the paranormal category. I loved Luna. She was such a sweet person, just starting out on life away from home, having her first experiences in college. But, she was haunted nightly by reoccurring nightmares. And those nightmares got more concentrated, to the point where the woman in her nightmares haunted her daily life. The choice she made near the end … I think I would have done the same thing. She didn’t know who she was anymore, and anyone in her situation would question the same things. I felt for Clay, I really did. His past was so heartbreaking. He had a true love, one for the ages, but she fell into a downward spiral of depression and couldn’t see her way out of it. Honestly, I didn’t understand where a lot of her anger toward Clay came from. Regardless, back to Clay, a lot of what he did in the story made me not like him very much. He was hot and cold, running more cold than anything. When everything comes together in the end, the overall story is really beautiful. Second chances, true love, the afterlife, fixing your mistakes and redeeming yourself. It’s an amazing idea that I know I hope is true.

Excerpt:
Cole, in all his confidence, stared at me. His features were gentle. Seeing that I was frozen, Cole took slow deliberate steps toward me, and I wrapped my hands around the swing ropes so tightly that my knuckles were turning white with my grip. Stepping into the well-worn hole in the earth from years of people kicking off the ground to swing, he came closer until our knees were pressed together and I could feel the tips of his shoes against my boots. I stood to move away, but he wrapped his hands over mine. His skin was warm and like it transferred heat, my body felt like it was rising in temperature. The minimal space between us was making me crazy. I glanced up and he leaned his head closer to mine. I should be stopping this. I should have shoved him away and let loose a string of profanities at him for thinking that I would kiss him. I should have done a lot of things, but I didn’t. Swallowing the insanity of nerves raging in my body, Cole’s eyes watched the movement of my throat before they slowly trailed up my neck and to my lips. Images from last night when he had been this close forced themselves to the front of my mind. Both of us on the floor, watching one another with hungry eyes, and yet distance still separated us. I would have done anything to twine my fingers in his thick brown hair and pull him tight against my body and never let go of his mouth. A shaky breath escaped my lungs at the thought. I started to realize how crazy he made me feel, especially at this proximity. The desire to kiss him overwhelmed my senses, and I caught myself unintentionally wetting my lower lip with the tip of my tongue. Just a taste, I thought. Cole was the one to swallow this time when he saw my tongue stealthily sweep out over my parted lips. It was like I could see him giving in to temptation in his raw stare. Slowly, his hands ran up my arms, leaving chills across my skin at the heat brewing in my body, igniting my impatience to have him in my arms. Even though we were outside, the air did nothing to cool the electric feeling between us. It was like I had become the sun and he was my sky, enveloping me until the universe became just him and me. The tips of his fingers gently caressed my neck, sending faint tickles down my spine. He inched closer and closer until he stopped a breath away, our eyes not leaving the others’. As the end of his nose brushed the tip of mine, my eyes fluttered shut, anticipating his touch.
Review:
A YA paranormal that takes an old concept and adds a new twist to it. First, I did get bored at some points. Nothing really happened until after the 50% mark, and that was a long first half of the book. The main character, Kaddy, just had a lot of band practices and weird fevers. With a paranormal, you expect more action and more pieces of the puzzle for the hero or heroine to figure out by the 50% mark. We don’t really get that. I was intrigued, but not as much as I normally would be with a paranormal. Kaddy was not your typical girl. Her past was really dark and cruel. She never seemed to get a break with anything. I am interested to see if her family comes into play in the next book(s). I have a lot of questions about her parents and brother. I loved Mike, Kaddy’s best friend, and the rest of the guys in her band. They were a dynamic group, and they all had this up and down relationship. I kept thinking that Mike would become the love interest, but that never happened. I also thought Mike would be a lot more involved, too, as the story progressed. Sadly, he was left in the dark. With Cole, the new guy in town, I don’t feel like I know enough about him and his character to say much. He was there, but his character fell flat with me. I don’t know if I was just waiting for something amazing with him or I was feeding off Kaddy’s initial assessment of him. He just didn’t seem 3-dimensional. Overall, the writing is amazing, if a little long-winded. The story itself is original-ish. And the characters are fluid.

Title: Bewitching Sloth
Series: Seven Deadly Series #1
Author: Michelle Gross
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Release Date: July 30, 2018
Reapers are the peacekeepers—the balancers of life and death, good and evil. They’re the police of the Underworld in a way. They keep both worlds balanced just enough so that the King of the Underworld can never escape his prison.
For the day his reign stretches into the human world, all things good will come to an end.
This is the story of a dark king who cursed seven siblings with sins, and how far those seven went to protect both worlds from the end of days when an old entity challenged the Dark One’s very reign.
Isabella Wen has spent the last decade in the human world hiding from the one that turned her touch deadly, made her body a weapon for his own gain.
Sebastian Reaper—bearer of the sin of sloth and the eldest son of the revered Grim Reaper—has spent his entire life fighting to stay awake because of his curse.
When the witch finds the sleepy sloth passed out in the human hospital, they touch and sparks fly. Her touch should have hurt him. Instead, it’s the one thing he’s after.
She thinks her darkness is her undoing. He thinks she’s his cure.
When her past and her future collide, he must choose between duty and heart.
The world or her?
Each book in the series is about a different sibling and their sin, so the romance has an ending in each book. As for the storyline, it’s just getting started
Michelle is from a small town in Eastern Kentucky where opossums try to blend in with the cats on the porch and bears are likely to chase your pets—this is very true, it happened with her sister’s dog. Despite the extra needed protection for your pets, she loves the mountains she calls home. She has a man and twin girls who are the light of her life and the reason she’s slightly crazy.
As a kid, she was that cousin, that friend, that sister and daughter, the talker who could spin a tale and make-believe into any little thing so it was no surprise when she found love in reading, and figured all these characters inside her head needed an outlet. They wanted to be heard, so she wrote.
The voices keep growing faster than she gets the time to write.
The stories are never going to end. That’s perfectly okay, though. We never want to stop an adventure.
She writes and loves many different genres so sign up to her mailing list to keep updated on her releases!
Not Her Gargoyle
-- Grab your copy for only 99¢ during release week only! -- EXCERPT: A distant dragon roar made Nick miss a wing beat. He swirled out of control for a second and caught his balance. One of them was close and he bet it was Eoin. Masquerading as a human would help Nick avoid recapture. He increased his speed, heading back to the apartment. Landing on Ruby’s fire escape, he found the window cracked open for him. He smiled at the small gesture of kindness. She was one of the sweetest women. He recalled how fiercely she’d protected her sister from the vampire and himself when they had invaded the apartment. That felt like forever ago. She had been ready to fight them both. Brave and beautiful and kind. Once more he wondered why she didn’t have a mate. Nick climbed inside and found her on the couch, feet propped on the coffee table as she watched the evening news. Three empty bottles of beer sat next to the couch. “Honey, I’m home,” he sang out. He’d always wanted to say that. She gave him a huge grin and waved him over. “Come sit with me.” The couch seemed too small for the two of them so he sat on the floor in front of her instead, leaning his back against it. “Look.” She pointed to the television. “More gargoyles.” His brothers were on the evening news, flying over the city’s port. “Yeah, I know them.” The dragon would hear about this if he wasn’t already watching. Nick hoped his brothers would lie quiet for a few days so Eoin wouldn’t blast them from the skies. Ruby draped herself over his shoulders and handed him a beer, rubbing her face on his skin. “You’re very warm.” She snuggled closer between his wings, her arms lazily circling his neck from behind. “Can you shoot flames like the dragons?” He snorted and took a sip of beer. “No. Are you drunk?” He eyed the bottles. There were only three. Then again, she was much smaller than a gargoyle. Maybe three was all it took. “Nah, but I’m feeling good.” She sighed and seemed to melt against him. “I had an awful day.” He reached behind and scratched her scalp with the tips of his claws like he would any family member in distress. He knew from experience that it felt good. He’d had a bad day too. Touching her made him feel better. She moaned in his ear and it sent shivers down his spine. She bent over his shoulder more, giving him better access to her head. “That feels great.” He undid the pins holding her hair and allowed it to cascade over his chest before continuing to massage her scalp. “What happened?” She felt so soft and tiny. Delicate like an angel. A brief whiff of her sweet smell and he struggled with the urge to bury his nose into her hair. “What do you mean?” Her voice was muffled against his skin. Sleepy. “Why was today so awful?” “My boss sold the diner. I might be unemployed soon and my landlord is pressuring for rent.” Nick finished his beer, absentmindedly scratching Ruby’s head. Stalking her boss until he changed his mind on selling the diner would probably end up with the police being called. Killing him was not Nick’s style. “Who’s the new owner?” He moved his hands to her shoulders and gently massaged the knots. Maybe they could be convinced to keep Ruby as an employee. “The right side is worse than the left. Oh God, right there. Don’t stop.” Those breathless pleas made him shudder. His wings reflexively expanded. She was setting off instinctual triggers. He breathed through the strong urge to carry her away somewhere dark and secluded. Teach her a thing or two about gargoyle anatomy. The desire to show her exactly how good he was at making women scream grew. The good kind of scream. Not the bad kind. Well, he could make them do that, too. “I don’t know about the diner. I imagine I’ll meet them soon. My boss says that my job is secure—” “That’s good news.” He ran long strands of red hair under his nose. Closing his eyes, he inhaled deeply. So, he didn’t have to beat anyone. “It is, but it’s also a lie. I’ve been through this before. The shifters are trying to clean up this area. They are building shifter oriented neighborhoods close to here and investors are gobbling up every available building.” “They are planning to make this neighborhood nicer?” That meant safer. Shifters were territorial and the majority responsible citizens. Any criminals in the area would be smart to move. He scratched his chin. Most shifters didn’t care for his kind. “Nicer means more expensive. It means my landlord can increase the rent, which means I’m going to have to move just like everyone else.” This wasn’t the Ruby he remembered. She seemed deflated draped over his body in defeat. “But you could find a better job at one of these new businesses.” “That’s if I can find a job. The last place I worked was a biker bar. The new owners renovated the place, it became an after-work lounge for hipsters. Then I was fired because I didn’t fit their expectations as a bartender.”

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Google Play -- EXCERPT: “How long have you lived at Court, Diana?” She leans forward, bracing her forearms against the edge of the table. Her features are hard, her face angular. I think she just permanently looks angry. “For about three hundred years.” “And you were born here, yes?” I prompt. She nods. I smile, nodding. “I would like to tell you a story, Diana,” I say, mirroring her posture. “A story of when our kind very first came into being. When my husband made himself into the ultimate hunter, but also cursed himself with the craving of blood.” Diana’s eyes widen a bit and her entire body tightens slightly. “I watched in horror as he hunted down his first human. I saw his tears as they fell down his face in remorse. Cyrus, the first vampire, like yourself, craved blood and he could not resist the urge to drink. So people went missing and the rumors began to spread in our town.” I can picture it all. Every detail. Every memory. The beginnings when I wore the face of Sevan and had never died a single death. But in this moment, I pay exact attention to my words. I control every line and every thought. “And then when there were two of us, the whisperings grew louder. Dark eyes turned our direction. Our lives were torn apart. We had to leave, or we knew they would turn against us.” I shiver as I think of that first night in the forest. “We lived like animals in the woods,” I continue. “And every night, we moved, because always during the day, they hunted us through the forest. With knives and primitive weapons. We didn’t know how they would hurt us. For months and months we were driven from place to place, constantly pushed by fear.” Diana sits there, very, very still. Frozen. She’s hardly even breathing as she listens to my story. “After I gave birth, we were once more on the run. One of us would always kill, and most of the time we were not discovered, but the times we were…” I shiver, remembering the terror. “We were strong, we could defend ourselves, but it was the two of us against the entire world. A population of billions.” I look up and meet her eyes. I lean forward slightly, our faces only a foot apart. “Roter Himmel was a god-send,” I say. “After years of living in fear and uncertainty, we had somewhere safe. Somewhere we did not have to hide what we were. We grew our family here. We loved and cherished here.” I sit back, my eyes darkening. “There are over eight billion people in this world, Diana,” I say straight and blunt. “There are roughly fifty-thousand vampires, Born, Royal, or the few Bitten left, throughout the world. There are forces at work in this moment that are trying to destroy Roter Himmel. They would expose our kind to the world, perhaps to change the system. To create a new monarchy. Perhaps to attempt to take over the world.” I sit forward again, locking my eyes on hers. “Fifty-thousand of us, eight billion of them. I’m not willing to take on those odds and lose the peace and protection of Roter Himmel. Are you willing to take that risk, Diana?” Her expression has been going slack, slowly, over this entire story time. Her eyes are open, her lips slightly parted. “We all look the same, loyal or betrayer,” I say. “This may take some time. But if even one of them slips through the cracks, it could mean the end of us all. Are you ready to take the risk, Diana?” She blinks five times, as if clearing the fog of my story from her brain. “No,” she whispers. “Do you want to be hunted one day, 160,000 to one?” I ask her. “No,” she immediately says. “Do you understand why I must be careful and thorough?” “Yes, my Queen.” She says it with a little bow of her head.

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo EXCERPT: Murphy didn’t bother with the door. He came straight through the hearth, travelling through the fiery elements of his heritage. Mayhem was close. Writhing beneath the surface, tearing at the restraints, howling to be set free. Clamping down on his base self, he swept the small front room of his mind, a red haze gathered behind his eyes and found … “You’re making a mess,” said the toffee-eyed temptress with hands on her curvy hips and chin jutted at the coals littering the stone flooring. Murphy glanced down and began to toe aside embers. Wait a fecking minute! This was his house–so to speak. Growling, he took a step forward. “Where is she?” Hailey–goddamn her–stood her ground, threw her shoulders back, maximising the swell of luscious breasts, and arched a slender eyebrow. “I’m not sure how things work where you come from, but where I come from, you catch more bees with honey,” she stated with all the hauteur of a tiny hive queen. No. Not gonna happen. She’d tricked him once, and that was shame on her. He wasn’t about to give her another opportunity to force the fool’s hat onto his head. For all he knew, she was working with Valazhor. Come to think of it … “What did she offer you?” he asked. Candy apple lips parted then snapped shut again, a believable impression of affront arranged across her features. “Excuse me?” She wanted to play it the hard way, did she? Dainty hands dropped from her hips and tucked into the crooks of her arms when she crossed them under her breasts. Carnal desire hijacked the moment and served up a confused reminder of plush curves undulating against him, open-mouthed kisses along his neck… “You heard me,” he growled, cursing the throaty throb in his voice. “What was to be your reward for distracting me so that the Medusan hybrid could get close enough to deliver Persephone’s message?” Anger ignited in her eyes, flaming cognac over toffee, the scent of burnt caramel licking the air. “I don’t appreciate what you’re implying.” Anger he could do. Anger was safer. Way safer than the alternative. Closing the gap, Murphy crowded in, using his size to dominate. Again, she refused to back down and craned her head all the way back, daggers in her eyes. Dynamite, as the saying goes, comes in small packages. The masochist in him toyed with the ignition switch. Lowering his head, he said in her ear, “I’m only going to ask one more time so think carefully before you answer.” This close, her scent was richer, more exotic. Harder to ignore. “What was the deal Valazhor made with you?” She didn’t move, though her breathing became shallower. “Or what?” Hailey murmured. “You’ll lock me in my room?” She turned her head toward him, her lips millimetres from his, candy scent invading his nostrils. His mouth watered, and the base of his spine knotted with need. It took greater effort than he wanted to admit to make his brainbox line up the threat he had ready. “Or, I’ll save myself a whole lot of fecking trouble and give you to Persephone myself.” Thick black lashes, swept upward, revealed the brandy fire in her eyes. Her aura in life had read as human. Nothing about her had suggested hybrid, much less witch. Even the background check Ross had him run before allowing her to visit the penthouse revealed little more than a classic case of daddy’s pampered princess. And yet, her eyes burned with a soul fire that intrigued and disturbed him, agitating something deep inside of him. “What are you waiting for?” she challenged in a whisper. “Do it. Hand me over.” Caught in the blaze of her eyes, everything else ceased to exist. In the lull, that thing she had disturbed, rose up. Intensely territorial, fiercely possessive, spiked with a craving so intense… he acted before thought could catch deed.
