Title: Watch and See
Author: Jiffy Kate
Genre: Contemporary Romance w/ Erotic Elements
Release Date: March 9, 2018
The small-town gossip about her dead dad and drug-addicted mother has taken its toll. But when her mother is admitted to a long-term rehab facility a few hours away, Harper sees her chance for a fresh start.
A shoebox apartment above a Chinese restaurant isn’t exactly the escape she dreamed of, but she makes it work. With limited funds and no social life, she views her new city through a dusty old pair of binoculars.
There’s no harm in looking.
Just a peek and I’ll stop.
Harper finds her new pastime quickly turning into a full-fledged obsession. She begins falling for a man she doesn’t know—has never met—as she watches him have sex through the window of his apartment. Daydreaming about what it would be like if she were one of his conquests.
We all reach a point when watching isn't enough—when we can no longer just be a spectator in our own life. That's when it's supposed to get good, right? When we take control and go after what we want. But what happens when it all blows up in our face and we’re left with less than nothing?
What then?
Review:
Watch and See was a different read for me and I really enjoyed it. It was so… naughty but sweet at the same time. I loved all the characters in this book. I related to Harper the most… she was my favorite. She was both sweet and shy, but a little lost. Her mother was emotionally abusive and an addict, but Harper still felt an obligation to her—which makes her a better person than most people. Even though she had some great friends who wanted to take care of her, she didn’t want to burden them, so she’s often lonely and hid it from them and the world; which leads to her to an unhealthy obsession with the nameless man across the street. I loved how this story unfolded and the growth of Harper’s character and Luke’s as well… Luke is damaged and, like Harper, hides behind a mask. I don’t want to say too much about him since this is a story you need to experience and find out its secrets for yourself. This is my first Jiffy Kate novel, but will definitely not be my last. Watch and See is both seductive and sweet and will leave you wanting more. A well-written story about accepting and loving yourself, forgiveness and redemption, and ultimately unconditional love. 5 Stars!

Excerpt:
(Unedited and subject to change.) “She’s back, sir.” There’s no need for Garrett to say her name. I know exactly who the pit boss managing the black jack tables is talking about. And knowing that the brunette beauty is back under the roof of my casino makes my dick harder than steel. “Is she scoring yet?” I’m not sure why I’m asking. She always wins big money. “Yes. And already pressing, sir.” Betting large sums of money. She intends on winning big tonight. And so do I. She is Emma Lia Grant. Daughter of Conrad Grant, once regarded as one of the biggest cheats on the casino scene. His kid has been visiting my casino. A lot. And she’s up to her old man’s tricks: card counting, roulette past posting, dice slides. You name it and she has done it in my house right under my nose. And I’ve let her. My first interaction with Miss Grant happened by coincidence. One of my pit bosses suspected that a new dealer was false shuffling but couldn’t catch him in the act. No one could. Not even my best trained eyes. I was called down to the floor to see for myself but my eyes weren’t on the dealer or his shuffling. They were on the brunette beauty at his table who happened to be winning huge sums of money. A fucking knockout. Long chestnut locks with caramel highlights, the ends kissed with loose curls. Forget-me-not blue eyes surrounded by lush, wispy dark lashes. A full rack with cleavage on display and an ass with plenty of meat. The kind of ass that I could dig my fingers into and use as a grip to push and pull her off and on my cock when I fuck her from behind. That image has played out in my head more than one time, and it always ends the same: her collapsing onto the bed with my cum dripping out of her pussy. The second that I laid eyes on her, my entire world changed. I became restless, desiring something not in my possession, and I had to have her. Make her mine. My mind and cock became obsessed with Emma Lia Grant. From that night on, she’s been the only one that I’ve thought about. Fantasized about. Dreamed about. Miss Grant’s winnings, or debts as I prefer to call them, are close to hitting the magic number. Only sixteen thousand dollars prevents me from carrying out my plan. Tonight’s the night, and that has my dick twitching. I’ve been camping out in the private penthouse in my hotel for a week waiting for this moment. On call for the moment Emma Lia’s debt hits the hundred-thousand-dollar mark. Ching… ching… ching. It’s like my own personal sexual jackpot clinking in my ears.

TruthStone
Book 1 of the Truthseer Archives by Mike Shelton Genre: YA Epic Fantasy
About The Book:
One little lie won’t hurt. When fifteen year old Shaeleen unexpectedly is given a TruthStone, every lie she hears or tells causes her immense physical pain. As she struggles to control her new power and curb the pain, she learns a powerful truth that could thrust an entire continent into civil war. She must choose: reveal the truth and stop the pain – or sacrifice her own well-being to protect her kingdom. For two hundred years the five kingdoms of Wayland have been protected by the stones of power. Now those stones are failing and a darker power is trying to take control. With the help of her brother, Cole and a newfound friend, Orin, Shaeleen sets out to gather and restore the power of all the stones. But will she succeed before the endless lies destroy her?
Excerpt:
As Shaeleen reached the edge of the crowd, an old, wrinkled woman with a gray hood over her hair almost knocked Shaeleen down. The woman fell to the dirt in front of her, and as she leaned down to help the woman, Shaeleen glanced around, trying to figure out where the woman had come from. “Are you hurt?” Shaeleen asked, kneeling beside the elderly woman. The woman shook her head and peered up at Shaeleen, her hood sliding back off her hair. Shaeleen gasped and put her hand over her mouth. “Don’t be afraid,” the woman said in a quiet voice. Her long, white hair hung straight around her slender face, and she peered hard at Shaeleen. But it was the woman’s upswept ears and pale blue eyes—a similar eye color to her own and her brother’s—that clued Shaeleen in on the woman’s heritage. A heritage that Shaeleen had always wondered if she and her brother shared with those from Verlyn—though mixed and weak it would have to have been. Only her eye color was similar to the woman’s, but that was enough to stick out in a nation with predominately brown and green eyes. The woman was obviously not from the kingdom of Gelena but from Verlyn, an island off the southeast coast of the continent of Wayland. An island where the descendants of elves lived and, if believed, where the magic in Wayland had originated. Shaeleen’s heart pounded. She’d seen the people of Verlyn from a distance before, but they were usually aloof. The woman’s face held wrinkles that had been chiseled into her delicate features over many years. She lifted up a gnarled hand toward Shaeleen’s cheek, and it took all Shaeleen’s will to not move away. “What are you doing in the market today, my dear?” the old woman asked, stopping her hand just short from actually touching Shaeleen. “Buying cloth for my mother, ma’am,” Shaeleen said. As a man came running up next to them, the woman cleared her voice loudly and seemed annoyed. He moved more quickly than Shaeleen had thought should be possible. The power of speed came from Antioch, but the man didn’t look like he was from there. “Keeper,” the man said to the woman. His long, brown hair hung down loosely over his brown leather vest and dark green shirt. Next to his leather pants hung a silver sword, on which his hand rested. His blue eyes continued to roam the marketplace. “We need to leave,” he added. “They have followed us here.” The woman looked up at the man then returned her attention to Shaeleen. “I do not see any cloth with you, child. Are you sure that is where you were going?” Shaeleen blushed and felt guilty at lying, something that had lately become easy to do to her father and mother. Without admitting her guilt, she changed the subject by saying, “Let me help you up.” The woman brought her other hand out from behind her back and placed it in Shaeleen’s outstretched hand to accept the help. As she did so, the woman pushed something into Shaeleen’s palm. Once standing, the woman brought Shaeleen’s hands together, wrapping both of her own wrinkled hands around Shaeleen’s, squeezing them tight around the object. A soft, green light appeared around the edges of their hands, and something strange and peculiar raced through Shaeleen’s body, increasing her heart rate and stimulating her mind. “What are you doing?” Shaeleen said as she tried to pull her hands free. But the woman held strong and looked Shaeleen in the eye. “Take it,” she said, her voice hoarse and low. “You are the one to save all the stones. Their magic is fading. You have been prophesied.” The man with the sword moved to grab the old woman’s elbow. “Keeper Melindra, we must leave!” Melindra turned to the man. “We have a few more moments, Galen. You just watch out for trouble.” Shaeleen couldn’t follow what was going on. What had the man called the woman again? A keeper! The only keeper Shaeleen knew about was the keeper of stones from her history books. Shaking her head, she couldn’t believe this crazy woman was one of those keepers. But the woman was from Verlyn, so something was going on that Shaeleen couldn’t quite figure out. A sound in the crowd alerted Shaeleen, and she turned to look. Through the swarming shoppers in the marketplace, she saw three men approaching. They had the same slender builds and facial features as Melindra and Galen. Shaeleen had never seen so many from Verlyn traveling together before. The three men were turning their heads from left to right, glancing down each row of vendors, searching for something—or someone. Shaeleen took a step back as she realized they must be searching for Melindra. The old woman followed Shaeleen’s eyes and then seemed to stiffen. “Go,” she croaked. “Don’t let them see you.” “But…” Shaeleen tried to speak. Then she felt something in her hand. She had almost forgotten that the woman had given her something. She slowly opened her fingers and found herself looking at a small, green stone. It was beautiful and sparkled in the sunlight, holding her transfixed for a moment. This couldn’t be what she thought it was. That wasn’t possible. She turned, to give it back to the woman, for she couldn’t accept such a gift, especially from a stranger. But, by the size of it—a little smaller than a chicken egg—she’d guess that her entire family could live forever on its worth, and its value was worth much more than gold or silver if it was indeed what she thought it was. Shaeleen’s mind raced momentarily with the possibilities of wealth it would bring if she could sell it. But she finally shoved the stone back toward the woman. The old woman pushed Shaeleen’s hand away. “It is yours now, but not for the riches.” How could the woman know what I had been thinking? “I…” Shaeleen tried to speak but felt a tightening of her chest. “Don’t deny it, child,” Melindra said sternly. “Those types of thoughts will only cause you pain.” This is crazy. Why did she give me this gemstone? This is… “Moldavite, a TruthStone,” Shaeleen whispered. “Hush, child. You don’t want people hearing that, do you?”

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble -- EXCERPT: Luke stood up and held out a hand to help Pippa up. He didn’t let go after she rose, and he clasped it firmly as they walked together. It didn’t feel awkward—he’d already held her hand a couple of times. He felt protective. They walked along in silence. They passed a mailbox, its hinge squeaking in the wind. The wind had picked up a plastic bag, which was scraping along the road, dancing with the fallen leaves. Every noise was amplified. Luke pulled Pippa toward him to avoid a ditch. It was then that Luke sensed something. He glanced over his shoulder, and saw the flash of someone jump behind a tree. Luke’s muscles tensed. They were being followed. “Don’t turn around, but someone is behind us,” warned Luke. “On foot.” He saw Pippa’s neck stiffen. “Who is it?” she whispered. “Not sure, but let’s speed up.” They started walking as fast as possible without running. Luke felt as if there was a bullseye on his back. Was the person who was following them crazy enough to do something to harm them? What if he had a gun? They were about a block away from the nearest streetlight. Luke feared that if they walked under it, they would be completely exposed to whoever was following them. It seemed safer to remain in the shadows. He abruptly pulled Pippa diagonally across the street. They picked up their pace and stayed on course. “We’ll be able to see who it is when they pass the streetlight,” said Luke. “Do you think he crossed, too?” Luke pricked his ears. He could hear a distant tap, tap. Footsteps. “No, he’s on the other side.” They walked past the streetlight and up about thirty feet before stopping short and turning around. For a split second, they saw a figure bathed in the light, but then it darted to the side. It looked like a man, in a baseball hat. But he was too fast for them. Luke grabbed Pippa’s hand tightly.” “We need to run.”

Title: Love Broken
Author: J.D. Hollyfield
Genre: RomCom/Contemporary
Release Date: February 26, 2018
My name is Katie Beller, but the world, as of late, knows me as Bailey Swan, the love guru behind my bestselling book.
Want the shortened version? Here it is:
Love was stupid.
A fake. A farce
Love was broken.
Women everywhere were eating up my advice and fighting back against fake love. My book started a relationship revolution. And I stood by my story.
Until I met Charlie Bates.
When I throw all my own rules and advice out the window after a week-long rendezvous, I start to wonder just how real my words were. Maybe love might be just a little more complicated than I thought.
Maybe I’m the one who’s love broken.
This is sort of a mixed review...while I really loved parts of the book, but there were some scenes/issues that left a bad taste in my mouth and just bothered me personally.
It was well written for sure and I LOVED the first half of the book. I was totally into Katie's initial character and loved the chemistry between her and Chase/Charlie as well as the humor peppered throughout the book. I definitely laughed a lot! Once Chase's secret is revealed the whole book just kind of plummeted for me. There was a LOT of angst and it made me feel frazzled. I wanted to grab Katie and just shake her for being so childish and immature. She became so irritating to me as the book went on and I was disappointed with how her character arc fell. Honestly I still loved Chase. Yes, he was dishonest but he did own up to it, and he was committed to making things right with Katie, she just acted like a brat and ran away over and over and over again. Smh. I devoured the first half of the book in about 1.5 hours, but the last half took me 4 days to finish because I kept losing interest due to Katie's actions/inactions. Am I saying it's a bad book? No, I'm not. It was well written with generally likeable and relatable characters and some hilarious tidbits. For me personally it fell a little flat (as a whole), but that doesn't mean that I don't recommend it-I have several reader friends who adore a good angsty book with lots of drama, it's just not what I prefer ;) I give this book 4 stars

Review:
I think this is my favorite book by Lani Lynn Vale! I LOVED Steel aka Big Papa, and Winnie’s story— their chemistry was off the charts! Winnie was such a strong character. She had gone through so much but was still able to take care of her family despite the physical and emotional pain she endured. Steel/Big Papa… I’m still fanning myself over his alphaness. He was such a wonderful hero— hard yet soft. He went out of his way to take care of Winnie and her kids when her ex fell down on the job. At first, he wasn’t sure about Winnie since he was so badly burned in the past, but once he made up his mind to have her… no one was going to stop him. There was one blip in it for me, but overall I think it was her best book to date. Lots of humor and drama—just the way I like it. The epilogue melted my heart and made me laugh out loud.
